Breaking Cycles

On Breaking Cycles I interview a wide ranging assortment of people to bring perspective on to the every day experiences that often go unnoticed. I try to high light the relentless human desire to break out of different cycles. Poverty, addictions, social constraints, or just frames of mind. Breaking Cycles is an attempt at finding the voices of people that are normally not heard. From social workers, artists, educators, to people that have lived in the street, health care workers and anyone with an interesting insight. They're the voices we seldom listen to, but they're the voices we hear every day.

She talks to us about the challenges of working with the homeless population, different models used to tackle homelessness and the sense of fulfillment one can get from serving the community.

This week I have Casey Joël, who came to Chicago straight out of high school from Germany to work in one of the biggest shelters in the city. A German rapper with a great work ethic. We get into how the transition from Germany straight into Chi-town was. We talk interracial relationships and the difficulties of being in a long distance relationship, as well as how Germany is handling Covid-19. Finally, we get to listen to some of Joel's music.

For Ep. 0 I thought I'd let the "audience" get to know me. I'm interviewed by Aidan Montoya, host of Mind Pick Podcast. We get into my upbringing, my career as a tattoo artist, a cook, and eventually a social worker. We talk about the comic book Spawn, and growing up a latchkey kid. It's an exploration of how I broke out of a few cycles on my way to getting behind the microphone.
